Improving usage metrics with better data collection
Problem
McGraw Hill approached MVR Digital with concerns about their data's accuracy. With the upcoming school semester on the horizon, the MH AccessEngineering site's engagement metrics and site usage were pivotal. There were issues with event triggers, partial tracking, and incomplete reporting. The team was keen to enhance data collection and reporting precision, while also transitioning to GA4 without any hiccups.
Solution
MVR teamed up with McGraw Hill to pinpoint their objectives. Our deep dive revealed that script breakage was a recurring issue whenever new developers came on board, along with a large portion of ways a student can access an element were not being tracked. To tackle this, we designed custom code snippets to minimize such disruptions. In tandem with their development team, we ensured a smooth integration. Comprehensive testing was undertaken to guarantee that every user action was aptly recorded, fortifying the setup for the long haul. To provide the executives clear insights into their data, designed a series of custom reports to view the data from multiple angles.
Results
Our data collection changes resulted in a 75% uptick in data precision, 100% less breakage, and a 78% reduction in the executive team's report generation time. Additionally, our custom-designed Looker dashboards allowed the team to bypass GA4 entirely while still allowing the flexibility to customize the data they're viewing.
